"Tesla’s battery research partner has released a paper on developing battery cells that could last over one million miles, particularly useful for robo-taxis. Jeff Dahn and his lab, battery researchers for Tesla, have released test results for this new Li-Ion battery. Having extensively tested these cells under different conditions and cycles, Dahn’s team conclude they can last two to three times longer than Tesla’s current battery cells. Tesla, having a million-mile battery and manufacturing its own cells by next year, will be a major disrupter with a competitive advantage in the EV space. Availability of such long-range batteries, with their lower cost per mile operation and longevity, can bring robo-taxis and autonomous EV fleets closer to reality." – Vinay Piparsania
