“Tesla CEO Musk has decided that Gigafactory 4 will be located near Berlin in Germany along with a research and development center. In a tweet, he added that the factory will build batteries, powertrains and vehicles starting with the Model Y. It will be situated close to the new BER airport currently under construction and will be fed with renewable energy from a combination of wind, solar and other sources. It is a positive as Tesla’s decision will help eliminate doubts about the future of EVs and boost confidence in the whole industry. Although it will take time for the plant to get up and running, the decision is a serious threat to German automakers such as Volkswagen. However, there are legitimate concerns about how Tesla can manage the rapid build of its China factory and another big investment in a new plant in Germany while the company still struggles with profitability.”- Liz Lee
