"Nissan announced that it will focus on developing RADAR and camera-based ADAS systems. The company announced that LiDAR is expensive and doesn't match the capabilities of RADAR and camera-based 3D mapping. Earlier, Tesla’s Chief Executive, Elon Musk, also called LiDAR “a fool’s errand”. Companies like General Motors, Ford, and Waymo are still working on developing LiDAR-based self-driving cars. The technology fires more than a million laser pulses per second to process 3D models and maps. Estimates suggest that 50 LiDAR startups have received investments of more than US$1 billion over the past three years." – Hanish Bhatia
