“Apple is doubling the production of its recently launched AirPods Pro from 1 million to 2 million a month. Apple is known to have asked Luxshare-ICT, which builds the AirPods Pro in China, to double production to 2 million units per month. Despite the US-China trade tensions, Apple is developing a stronger partnership with the Chinese manufacturer to meet the surging demand for its AirPods Pro. Apple has also asked Goertek to boost production, at its Vietnam-based factories, of the lower-cost AirPods. Thus, Counterpoint forecasts that shipments of Apple’s AirPods will reach 61 million units in 2019, fuelled by the strong demand for the AirPods Pro during the holiday season.
Luxshare-ICT, founded in 2004 by a former production line worker at Foxconn, has been evolving from a small maker of components into a manufacturing powerhouse that serves global giants including Apple, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Tesla. Luxshare has a “wolflike” aggressive tendency for meeting the required goals under the deadline, according to an Apple executive.” – Liz Lee
