"The automotive supply chain is notoriously convoluted, with parts often being produced far from final assembly. This necessitates extensive use of shipping – a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and half of BMW’s transport chain emissions. Now, BMW has committed to bringing its global shipping CO2 contribution to zero within the next ten years. To do this, it is joining the Getting to Zero coalition started by the Global Maritime Forum, Friends of Ocean Action and the World Economic Forum. In addition, BMW has committed to use only renewable energy in all its production plants and three joint venture plants from next year. All its European production is already using only renewable energy."- Peter Richardson
